Think Positively

Training for my 5K has been pretty great so far.  I'm amazed at how much I'm enjoying my morning runs.  Heck, I'm amazed that I can run at all!  I'm love how great my "new" leg muscles feel during and after runs.  I'm surprised at how much closer places seem when I run there.  I'm fascinated with how adjusting my stride while I'm running affects my knees and other joints.

And I'm amazed at how HUNGRY running makes me!  Hello, how can my run in the morning give me the munchies all day?

This morning's run was my 8th, and I did 3.15 miles (5K) in 31:43, which is GREAT (at least for me).  I did intervals of 2 minutes running/45 seconds walking, and the last 30 seconds of each 2 minute run was perhaps the longest 30 seconds of my life…and each 45 second walk break was the shortest ever.  But my first run took 39 minutes, so I'm definitely getting a lot faster.

And who would have thought I'd actually like running, anyway?

P.S. – I drafted this post last night, and it was originally focused heavily on my frustrations.  Right before bed I rewrote it to focus on the positive (I left blanks for this morning's results), and it did wonders for my motivation this morning.  So if you're feeling bad about how your workouts are going, or if you're dreading your next one, try to think about all the good things you're doing!  Think about all the progress you've made!  Must…resist…"You've come a long way, baby!" reference!
