The Small Victories Count Most
So the other day I tweeted out, “I got frosting on my fingers at a party and wiped it on a napkin instead of licking it off. The small victories count too.”
It seemed fairly silly at the time, but Erica (@elsewise) tweeted back the following wisdom:
“The small victories count MOST.”
She’s right. Big victories are important, but normally they’re made up of a bunch of small victories. Think about it, if you’re trying to do 30 Day Shred for a month, you don’t do that whole month at a time. You do it for 30 days, each one being a victory! They add up, so celebrate each small victory!
Overall I’m still good. No candy or junk food since I started (except for Diet Mountain Dew, and I don’t want to hear it, LOL), and I’ve been good about keeping myself to doing Shred each day instead of an unstructured workout schedule. Each of those is a small victory, and they’re adding up into my feeling like I’m getting myself back on track and that’s a GREAT FEELING!

@Hellcat13 and I are working very hard at small victories. Today, for instance, we’d decided to treat ourselves to our favourite delicious gooey deli sandwiches as a treat for doing so well over the past week. Then, by email, we estimated the calories in those sandwiches (oh my god!) and agreed to split one instead, leaving us well within our daily calorie allowances. I was so proud of us that I immediately walked over to her desk to give her a high-five.
(After lunch, post-sandwich, we agreed that a half portion was definitely sufficient.)
We rocked today. Thanks to continued Shredheads inspiration and support, we’re on track.
What kind of sandwich? LOL
Turkey-bacon-avocado with lettuce and cheese, no tomato, on egg bread. And they have a super mayo-mustard-black pepper sauce. God that’s a good sandwich.
Hooray for staying on track one step at a time. I definitely need to keep this in mind.
The other day I saw you ran for the first time in a while…great job! I can’t wait to get back as well.
