The July Challenge Ends, the August Challenge Begins

Sorry for the serious lack of posting at the end of July…family vacations.  Yeah.  At least I ended up down about 3 pounds.  Not great, but considering over a week was spent completely off track while visiting family, I’ll take anything.

Now, as for August, well…I hate to be boring, but it’s the same challenge for me as July.  Eat right, and keep exercising.  Boy that sounds boring, doesn’t it?  But guess what?

I have to do it.

My wife is starting something called the 17 Day Diet.  From what she’s told me, it sounds like a reasonable approach to a lower carbohydrate diet.  I’m not a big “low carb/no carb” diet fan, but I definitely appreciate the detoxish period at the beginning, so I’m going to read the book and see if it makes sense for me.  Until then, it’s just plain common sense eating while I continue to get back to my goal weight.  (Oh, and I may be starting to slowly run outside again…knock on wood…yay!)

I’d also like to say hi to Teresa, Lynda, and Phina – three people who have been active in the comments lately and who are all kicking butt!  If you want to catch up, take a look at the comments in One Week, One Pound.  Let us know how you’re doing, ladies!  :)

I’m joining in for August – just realized I stress ate my way up 3 lbs instead of losing the 8 I was trying to over last couple of weeks. So now 11 to go. Started month off right by waking up to do a workout – we’ll see how it goes!

I did the first two 17 Day Diet stretches in June…..then extended family got in the way. I, too, appreciate the carb/sugar detox, but I found it too hard to coexist with a husband, three kids, family BBQs, picnics, and always being on the go. I lost 7 and haven’t put it back on since going off–though I still pull carbs off my plate most days after 2pm. I know real people–not just lovely Internet people!!-who have done the 17 Day Diet for 2-3 cycles and have lost 12-18#.

Going to start back with the first cycle again next week–the first 3 days are the hardest, but once that sugar is gone I found my energy actually skyrocketed (for the first time ever on a diet)!

I own 30 Day Shred, but have only done it a handful of times. I didn’t know about the knee modifications until I found Bill’s, so that should help now. Between swimming, elliptical, and weights, I’m hoping to add Shred on those “off” days. I need to lose 10, but would LOVE to lose 15.

Hi Shredheads! I’m hoping I can tag along for your August Challenge for some motivation! I’ve been doing the 30 Day Shred for a couple of weeks between running and spin classes but haven’t seen any results which is quite frustrating. Perhaps it has something do with my eating which I’m a weight watcher myself but bad at keeping track on a regular basis. In 2010 I lost about 18 pounds doing the jillianmichaels.com program, spinning, running and weight watchers but I injured my knee in late fall and coupled with a busy work schedule I slowly gained some of it back but at least it wasn’t all of it! My goal is to loose 10lbs this month but 20lbs is my overal goal.

    Wish me luck!

      Hey Crissy,

I’m not sure if you are looking for some weight watcher recipes. But this site is awesome: http://www.skinnytaste.com/
I don’t follow WW but she has some great stuff on here. I’ve made a few and all yummy!! Good luck…if you’ve done it 1st you can do it again. :)

I did the 17 Day Diet for a bit. But the lack of sugar made me physically sick and weak. Couldn’t function. :(

I’m stepping it up for August, I’ve dropped off when it comes to consistency. This month my goal is to work out in the morning. *They* say it takes 21 days to form a habit, my goal is to get my ass out of bed at 5am and shred for at least 21 days. My work-life balance these days has been non-existent to say the least, but I need to get back on track; at least get some Jillian time in!

    I’m in for August!

Hi all – I’m inspired by your page! Did my first day of the 30 day shred yesterday along with 20 mins on the exercise bike and WILL keep it up for 30 days. I’m 134.5 lbs and want to be 126 by October 1st – here’s to success!

    Hi everyone,

So I’m on level 1 of the 30 day shred. This is the 3rd time I’ve left off a day or so in between-I know, not good at all. I chanced upon here looking for inspiration and compatriots =D. Hopefully I will stick with the program now. I am 5ft9in and weigh 166 lbs…steadily gaining weight due to stress from work. I hope to lose 23 lbs and also do the couch to 5 k running program at the end of this year. Good luck to everyone.

    Hi Bill & everyone!!!

Totally didn’t notice the new section on top. Yeah. I was starting to think I was battling my weight lost with just Phina & Lynda. Heehee Great news on the 3lbs Bill! I like all the new dedicated ppl. It’s great to hear everyone’s story. It’s amazing how family, work and stress just pack the pounds on.

I’m going to switch it up now that I’ve completed the 30day Shred. I’m going to alternate Ripped in 30 with gym time and 1-2days off a week. I like the idea of lowering my sugar intake. It can get really bad at times. Have you tried Ripped yet?

    Hello everyone!!

Thank you so much for the shout out, I was with Teresa I didn’t think anyone else was posting here either. Unfortunately I don’t have a huge weight loss to report. My scale broke and I had to buy a new one, the new scale is showing a gain rather than the 1 lb. weight loss I had originally achieved with the shred. That being said & Teresa has seen the pics, I took pics 2 weeks into the shred and then continued to take more the last 2 weeks and there was a considerable difference, even if there wasn’t on the scale.

Keep in mind, my hubby also threw me a surprise 30th (bday is officially tomorrow) which resulted in cake and beer and food I shouldn’t have ate, but you only turn 30 once.

I’ve been following your knee adaptations Bill and I have found they help a lot as mine are killing me. I’ve started my second round of the shred and am going to actually break for a week and focus strictly on cardio, stretching and yoga. My body is telling me it needs a rest as my knees are aching whether I am doing the shred or not and so is my chest. Keep in mind I didn’t really break between round 1 and 2 of the shred and I think that was a mistake.

I have read here the ripped in 30 is a little easier on the knees, harder everywhere else though. So, I have full intention of starting that next week. I was considering picking up one of her (Jillian Michaels) or one Bob’s (for a comparison) can anyone recommend a really good one that has results like the shred. Time is also a HUGE factor in this house (I have twins). That is why I enjoy the 30 minute workouts so well, I can always squeeze them in, occupying the twins for an hour while I do a longer one might be difficult.

    Suggestions?

Bill – I could email you the pictures if you wanted to post them up here anywhere? Just tell me where I send them.

Keep shredding everyone, well worth it!!

    All right guys…-4lbs in 4wks!!! I lost a 1/2lb then 1lb then 0lb then… How did everyone else do?

  11. Nat on November 22, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Lynda – you will love Ripped in 30… I am on Day 3 Week 3, following the diet plan to perfection and doing the workouts alone 6 days a week and I have already lost 4.4 kgs! I have never had such success before! It has been fine on the knees up until week 3 which has a couple of exercises that are way too hard on my poor knees. Fortunately, the modified exercises are fine on the knees and are still super hard so it is all good :) The workouts are 20 mins or just over too which is perfect!
